| Subject: Showy Sunflower, Helianthus
laetiflorus |

| Locale: Kosota Prairie, south of Kosota,
Minnesota. |

| Comments: The Showy Sunflower
may have either a yellow or a dark purple disk. Here it is obviously
yellow. This has led to some confusion in the identification of
the species. Many species have this kind of contrasting variation,
which is called a polymorphism. Both morphs may be found within
the same population. |
