| Comments: Les Saintes are eight small
islands lying about seven miles south of Basse-Terre, Guadeloupe.
The largest of these, Terre-de-Haut, faces the Atlantic Ocean
on its eastern side, where the surf crashes upon long stretches
of beach. The drop-off there is a shallow decline, which produces
these constantly changing patterns of wave trains rolling shoreward.
As seen from the air, as it is in this photograph, the effect
is magnificent, if one is fascinated by waves. |
