| Comments: This beach grass, which is
found as a narrow strip of vegetation along the shoreline, just
above the high water mark, plays an important ecological role in
the maintenance of beaches everywhere
on the Great Lakes. Its roots hold the sand in place and prevents
the erosion of the beach by wind and waves. |
